An innovative reconstruction job for a New Age couple and their beloved canine, infused with space and light play and the right dose of drama…

The instructions for this project were to create a roomless double storey casa for a forward thinking twosome and their gorgeous pet. We began with a single-level landed house, which as per the wishes of the owners, was to appear as one endless form of space. This does sound quite very romantic but as we began working on it, we suggested a few practical additions such as a small Guest Room and Maid’s quarters. These were incorporated without ruining the intrigue, of course.

Our primary challenge lay in the shape and dimensions of the plot. It was long, narrow and needed light and air. To deal with this we inserted a long and rather dramatic air and light well that went straight through the roof of the house till the middle of it. This transported the best of natural illumination and ventilation right into the heart of the home that we call the Terrace House at Melayu.

The exclusive second storey of this house is a private haven for the lovely couple consisting of almost everything one could ever need! A cozy lounge, sleek study, luxurious master bedroom and bathroom, dream wardrobe, all in one roomy space with no harsh divisions, just the way they wanted it. All illusionary walls on the second floor are actually sliding doors that can be neatly pushed into the sides to create beautiful spatial continuity with no compromise of any sort.

The overall appearance of this home is classy yet understated, dynamic yet calming. The perfect balance between life’s everlasting duality like the symbolic Yin & Yang.
